7 Elements to help you become faster, more explosive & stronger.
Being fast can be a game changer, with sprinting speed being a key aspect of so many sports from football (soccer), rugby and many other sports. Training on speed to get that edge is a smart investment. Using specific exercises within the following seven elements will contribute to help you become faster, more explosive & stronger.
1. Develop Movement Patterns
Max force production, rate of force development, power & switching speed all come from long-term development goals. From both my own experience and from related research, each of these needs to be prioritized.
2. Develop Bounciness and Stiffness
How is this done? Plyometrics, loaded jumps and contrasts jumps, Isometrics exercises, Eccentrics & Rapid action movements.
3. Develop Tissue Capacity and Movement Range Resilience
Grow the glutes, strengthen the hamstrings, stiffen the Achilles, and improve the force transfer capability of the trunk and hip stabilizer muscles.
4. Lift Heavy, Build Volume Tolerance Over Time
Explosive Strength and power training are key components for Speed development.
5. Use Resisted Runs—Pushing and Pulling
Resisted running allows us to train specific angles of acceleration. Cue elements used throughout to run under restraint at a percentage of their max velocity.
6. Run at Max speed & Develop Speed by sprinting all Year Round
Run at max speed on a regularly basis, training principal to become fast run fast.
7. Rest, Recover Well & Quality Over Quantity
Sleep, nutrition and hydration are by far the best recovery tools anyone can use, whilst training on the quality over quantity with regular rest & instructions/corrections will see noticeable results.
